Mission Statement
The Salt Lake Children's Choir was established in the fall of 1979 in
order to extend the community's already rich musical heritage into the
area of fine choral singing by children--long a highly cherished art
form in many cultural centers of the world. Combining the inherent
beauty of carefully guided young voices with the world's outstanding
vocal literature, the choir strives each year to be an increasingly
influential and worthy example of the children's choral art and a
source of rich aesthetic experiences for audience and singer alike.

30th Anniversary Concert:
The Salt Lake Children's Choir turned 30 this year and will present a gala 30th Anniversary Concert Saturday, May 15 at 7:30 PM in Salt Lake City's Abravanel Hall.
Directed by the choir's founder, Ralph B. Woodward, the concert, entitled "Another Spring," will be a true "excursion"--both into the rich classical repertoire which has characterized the choir's concerts over the years and also into the fascinating world of ethnic music--of which the choir has long been a major exponent. Among several favorite classical pieces with which the choir has been identified and which the audience will recognize will be Schubert's "To Music," and Brahms' "My Heart Is in Bloom" (added to the classical segment will also be the hauntingly beautiful but rarely heard "Nightingale"--also by Brahms). Areas across the globe to be surveyed in this varied program are France, Wales, Slovakia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Namibia, Venezuela, and the Andes Region. Original compositions by the director to be heard include "Laudate Dominum," "Alpine Greeting," "Blue Ridge Fancy," "Alleluia Hispana," "Canto de Zampona" and the calypso, "Down by the Seashore."
Noted accordionist and jazz pianist extraordinaire Steve Keen will be featured with the choir in two international songs and also the American standard, "On the Sunny Side of the Street" and outstanding world music performer Dave Peterson will accompany the choir on both the Venezuelan "cuatro" the Andean "charango."
The evening will conclude with a combined choir of current members and alumni singing the choir's traditional "A Day in Spring."
All seats are $10 ($6 students) and tickets are available at ArtTix locations, from choir members, and at Day Murray music. Admission is open to those over 6 years of age.
